WONDERLAND HAUSER & WIRTH SOMERSET

When I heard the news about the Hauser & Wirth Somerset’s opening, I immediately updated my places-to-go-to list. It didn’t take too long to convince my friends to come with me. Without giving too much detail, I ensured them that we will enjoy the day while having a rich visual experience and I was right.

After we arrive in this rustic town, we follow the arrow marks through the green fields to reach our destination. The moment we set foot in this place where art, design, architecture, gastronomy, landscaping, and nature blended with each other, we are greeted by an outdoor installation of Alexander Calder, a sculptor from the USA. After visiting the gallery
space, we slightly open the door to the garden. I cannot immediately step outside; for a while I wonder if it is a garden or a wonderland. There, I stand for a few seconds and enjoy this colorful spree while striving to commit it to my memory.

Piet Oudolf, an internationally renowned garden and landscape designer from Netherlands, designed the landscape schema of this space. At the end of the garden named “Oudolf Field” sits the Radic Mansion which resembles a flat stone. This unique architecture designed by Smiljan Radić, an architect from Chile, makes you feel like you are in a place where the concept of time does not exist.

The Hauser & Worth was founded in 1992, in Zurich by Iwan Wirth, Manuela Wirth, Ursula Hauser and Marc Payot who joined them in 2000, and extends across cities like Hong Kong, London, New York, Los Angeles and Gstaad. If you are interested in imagery and aesthetic, you should absolutely visit Hauser & Wirth Somerset.
