Sanayi313’s new project completed in Aqua, one of Miami’s newest and most modern residential communities, is animated with iconic mid-century modern furniture that makes references to the identity of the building. The furniture complemented by a selection of works by artists from different nations and periods play the lead role in the four-story, spacious house. Aiming to create a serene living space, Enis Karavil and his team started developing the project based on a light color scheme to maintain simplicity in decoration while providing a suitable backdrop for the works of art. The project ultimately delivers a cocoon-like space for living that is in dialogue with the building and location, transitioning seamlessly between the interior and exterior as well as between the different levels.
The common areas including the living room, dining room, and kitchen are located on the ground floor of the house. The living room is characterized by light colors and iconic mid-century modern objects. The glass separators between the living and dining sections also function as shelf units and improve lighting between the two sections.
The lush greenery of the garden is within arm’s reach with the wide windows of the living room that features a sofa by Danish designer Oliver Gustav and a giant Venetian mirror just above it. In front of the window is a Vladimir Kagan-style white sofa with a Syrian mother-of-pearl inlaid coffee table next to it. The light fixture on the coffee table is Tube Chandelier by Michael Anastassiades.
The dining area features a glossy veneer Paolo Barracchia dining table made of ebony, walnut, and maple used with Cassina’s 413 Cab model chairs. The wicker pots used in the two corners of the room are by Atelier Vime, and the marble columns on the table are by Monica James & Co. The pendant lighting is Lariat 19 by design studio Apparatus. The painting on the wall is by Cuban artist Luis Rodriguez Noa.
The opulent porcelain collection of the homeowners adds elegance to the decor of the kitchen dominated by black and white. The transparent add-on at the end of the stainless-steel kitchen island is intended for quick meals, however, larger groups are accommodated at the Saarinen design marble Tulip table in the kitchen. Lighting by Serge Mouille.
In the entrance on the ground floor, the pink Pillow chair provides the first clues about the atmosphere of the house, a Ruemmler no. The 123 console is used on the opposite wall. The wall light fixtures are Uchiwa by Ingo Maurer. On the walls are works by Muhsin Kunt, Ayşe Wilson, Komet, Michelle Jezierski, Daniel Fletcher, and Mark Chagall.
The room on the fourth floor of the house functions as both a library and a sanctuary. The Camaleonda sofa designed by Mario Bellini plays the leading role in the room with wood-cladded walls. A Philip and Kelvin LaVerne coffee table from 1960 and an original folding Thonet chair complete the space.
