TRANSFORMATION – EDA SOYLU

An interdisciplinary artist, Eda Soylu explores the relationship between personal memory and space through a delicate approach. Throughout her exhibitions over the years, the notion of “home” consistently reappears. When we asked her about the word “Transformation,” her response once again converged on the same point, her attachment to the state of being at home and how every transformation ultimately returns her there.

When was the last time you used the word “Transformation”?

Just this morning.

What kind of feeling does this word evoke in you?

To turn: around oneself and towards oneself.

Cycle: spiral.

To transform: to reunite, to remember and to attune.

The word “transformation” creates a sense of being embraced for me. This is directly related to feeling at home at all times. Every part of transformation belongs to this devotion, the state of being at home is made up of all these components.

How is this word related to you and your work?

My works, in fact every moment of my life are built around this word.

Could you suggest three new words for our next interview?

Sincerity, palimpsest, self-portrait.

Eda Soylu’s solo exhibition titled “Alt/Üst” can be seen at Merdiven Art Space until May 9.
